Academic
Careers

The way professors are hired, evaluated, and protected (or not), is a central concern for academic freedom and viewpoint diversity. HxA explores what the structures of academic careers means for heterodox values, and possible ways to improve.
Academic career structures are essential to understanding the increase in homogenous views and self-silencing among faculty. More candidates for fewer tenure-track jobs, the rise of adjunct faculty positions with few formal protections, and the rising influence of DEI and other non-faculty departments, all contribute to rapid changes for aspiring career academics.
HxA works to address these challenges, and also helps members share advice and resources for exerting a positive influence on their own institutions, and navigating their own careers – whether as graduate students, faculty, administrators, or senior-level leaders.
